Downey Savings required a testing solution that reliably simulates Wincor-Nixdorf’s Windows® / XFS application, ProCash. Lexcel Solutions, Inc. has delivered their comprehensive Open Architecture test solution, expanding Downey Savings test coverage and reducing their test execution time from hours to seconds.

Downey Savings, the primary subsidiary of Downey Financial Corp. (NYSE: DSL), is a federally chartered financial institution that offers a full suite of financial services from checking accounts to home loans to Internet Banking. The company, one of California's oldest and largest Savings and Loan institutions, has over 150 branches throughout California and Arizona with over $11 billion in assets.

Lexcel’s solution enables Downey to replicate physical ATM devices interfacing to Wincor-Nixdorf’s Windows® / XFS application, ProCash, in a virtual environment. The ATM’s images are transferred onto test PCs running Lexcel TestSystem ATM – Open Architecture, which provides ATM device inputs to exercise the ProCash application. Lexcel’s virtual ATMs can be multiplied, allowing for testing and regression of multiple vendor software and application revisions side-by-side.

Lexcel TestSystem ATM – Open Architecture increased Downey’s availability of test ATMs by 100% and improved test execution time by over 50%. With Lexcel’s solution, Downey can take advantage of additional benefits including the ability to perform negative testing involving component and device faults.

Testing time at a physical ATM is limited to the speed an individual can interact with the device. Lexcel’s solution enables Downey Savings to automatically simulate and replay, in real-time, user’s interaction with the ATM in addition to controlling the interaction for expanded test coverage. Testers also have the ability to “break” the virtual devices by simulating single and multiple device and component failures with no degradation of the physical ATM.

Cardholders’ demand for a positive ATM experience equates to heightened exposure and rigorous testing cycles for financial institutions and application developers.
